The Alpha Energy Solutions Impala, driven by Ben Rhodes, passed the number 34 car of Scott Heckert on lap 14 to lead the remaining 162 laps and win by a margin of 1.191 seconds

Ben Rhodes won his fourth NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race in a row and is knocking on the door of a couple records.

Rhodes took the lead on lap 14 in the Visit Hampton VA 175 at Langley Speedway in Virginia and stayed out front for the remainder of the race.

“I can’t thank our guys enough at Turner Scott Motorsports,” said Rhodes, driver of the No. 41 Alpha Energy Solutions Chevrolet, after the event.

“I like to call them the ‘Dream Team,’ and I’m just the fortunate one that gets to drive the Alpha Energy Solutions Chevy.

It was really tough early on, I thought we were gonna have a bad day, but they didn’t give up, I didn’t give up and that’s why we were standing over there in Victory Lane.”

He won his fifth race of the season. Ricky Craven set the record for most consecutive wins with five when the K&N Pro Series East was the Busch Series North in 1991. Dylan Kwasniewski holds the K&N Pro Series East record for most wins in a season with six set in 2007.

Rhodes, a 17-year-old from Louisville, Ky., has won races at Greenville Pickens Speedway, Iowa Speedway, Bowman Gray Stadium and most recently at Five Flags Speedway in Florida.

Scott Heckert won the pole for the race at Langley Speedway and was out front for the first 13 laps.

Rhodes passed Heckert on lap 14. Cameron Hayley and Kenzie Ruston challenged Rhodes for the lead, but neither could make a move to overtake him.

“Those guys kind of pressured me a little bit on those restarts,” said Rhodes. “I had to get away from them and I knew that last restart was going to be tricky. You never know when a caution is going to come out. Luckily we timed it right and were able to get away from them and pull off the win.”

Hayley finished in second place. Ruston matched her best K&N Pro Series East finish in third place. She is the highest finishing woman driver in K&N Pro Series East history.

“Our car was pretty good since practice,” said Ruston.

Mother Nature tried to rain on Ben Rhodes’ parade but couldn’t dampen his spirits on victory lane after the Hampton 175 at Langley Speedway in Virginia

“Mike Fritts gave me a good car, but we just got a little too tight there at the end. Hopefully when we go to New Hampshire in a couple of weeks we can keep this momentum going, get us another top five and be fighting for the win.”

Heckert crossed the finish line in fourth place, followed by Kaz Garla in fifth.

Rhodes has a dominating 71-point lead in the K&N Pro Series East standings after nine races.

Hayley is in second place in the K&N Pro Series East standings. Gray Gaulding, who finished in 18th place at Langley Speedway, is third in the standings.

The next K&N Pro Series East race is at New Hampshire International Speedway is July 11.

Ben Rhodes won the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race at Five Flags Speedway in Florida. It was his third win in a row in the K&N Pro Series East.

If he keeps it up, Rhodes will race into some rare company.

Rhodes, a rookie in the K&N Pro Series East, has a 55-point lead in the East Series standings after eight races, the halfway point in the season.

Only three other drivers have won the K&N Pro Series East championship as a rookie. They are Kyle Larson, Ryan Truex and Joey Logano, all drivers in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

“I never would have thought we’d have such a good season,” said Rhodes, driver of the No. 41 Alpha Energy Solutions Chevrolet. “I’ve been building on top of all that. It makes my feedback better. Even though we only had 45 minutes of practice and this was my first time seeing the track, we did a good job tuning the car.”

Rhodes led the final 16 laps of the Pensacola 150 to win his fourth race of the season. Cameron Hayley took the lead in the race at the halfway point. He passed Rhodes, who dropped to fourth in the early part of the second half of the race. Rhodes moved back out front on a restart late in the race.

“Trying to save tires is always tough,” said Rhodes. “You don’t know if you’re going to get any breaks at the end. … Once you start saving you just hope you can get a break to get back up there or you have enough tire to run back up there. And I was trying to do both.”

Brandon Jones made a late charge to pass Hayley and finish in second place.

“We kind of saved too much, honestly, in the beginning,” Jones said. “And the end. I saw (Hayley) getting sideways off the corner. (Crew chief) Shane (Huffman) kept getting on me to drive straight off the corners and not spin the tires on exit. I think we were just getting more drive off and fortunately got him there at the end.”

Hayley, who led for 20 laps and was out front as late as lap 133, crossed the finish line in third place.

“Obviously it’s not what we wanted. We wanted to go out there and get the win,” Hayley said. “At that point, we had so many cars that had burned their tires off. I knew I had burned mine off a little bit more than everybody else getting to that lead but I knew I had them. I had them and that caution really hurt us a lot.”

Kenzie Ruston, who cut a tire and fell a lap down in the race, came back for a fourth-place finish.

Grey Gaulding, who led a race-high 80 laps and won the pole, his second of the season, finished in fifth place.

Hayley moved into third place in the K&N Pro Series East standings. He is 10 points behind Gaulding and three points ahead of Jones.

K&N carbon fiber clamp-on universal air filter, RP-5168, uses an attractive hand-laid carbon fiber 5-inch diameter air filter top. The 7.5-inch diameter air filter base of RP-5168 is made with ultra-strong molded pliable rubber and incorporates a 6-inch inner diameter flange. The flange of RP-5168 is 1-inch in length and can be stretched up to 1/16-inch to fit in-between size inlets. This molded flange absorbs vibration and allows for secure attachment. At the heart of RP-5168 is the world famous K&N high flow cotton air filter media in a 6-inch height with 5/8-inch deep filter pleats.

The RP-5168 carbon fiber top air filter has been tested in the K&N in-house filtration lab to ensure maximum possible airflow achievable while providing guaranteed engine protection. Test results show that RP-5168 can flow over 350 cubic feet per minute (CFM) of air at 1.5 inches of water pressure. To put it simply, RP-5168 flows plenty of air to be used in the K&N Air Intake System, 63-3079, which fits the 580 horsepower 6.2-liter supercharged V8 of the 2012-2014 Chevy Camaro ZL1.

K&N performs filtration efficiency testing following the ISO 5011 protocol to guarantee that our air filters will provide high airflow without sacrificing engine protection. K&N RP-5168 was shown to have a 98.50% overall filtration efficiency when tested with ISO coarse test dust. As with other K&N high-flow air filters, RP-5168, is washable and reusable using one of the K&N Recharger air filter service kits. Recharger, 99-5000, includes 12 fluid ounces of air filter cleaner and a 6.5 ounce aerosol bottle of air filter oil for quick and easy application. Recharger, 99-5050, differs in that it includes an 8 ounce squeeze bottle of K&N filter oil for a more precise application. RP-5168, when used in custom or race vehicles, is warranted against defective materials or workmanship for one year from date of purchase with no mileage limitation.

The K&N NASA American Iron Ford Mustang RTR race car was built in-house by the K&N crew and is wrapped in bold K&N graphics

The National Auto Sport Association, or NASA for short, is the sanctioning body behind the American Iron Racing Series. American Iron Racing was created for U.S. made muscle cars such as the Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, and the Pontiac Firebird. It is composed of three classes, the Camaro Mustang Challenge (CMC), American Iron (AI), and American Iron Extreme (AIX). The classes vary from the CMC, which is composed of nearly showroom stock cars, all the way to AIX, which is almost an open class.

K&N partnered with quality manufacturers like Ford Racing, Optima Batteries, Eibach Springs and Bassani Exhaust to make this dream car a reality

The American Iron (AI), class is situated between the other two, with rules in place for minimum weights and maximum horsepower to weight ratios. K&N Performance Filters specifically built the 2014 Ford Racing Mustang RTR to compete in the AI class. American Iron Racing rules specify that eligible cars must use an OEM frame and chassis or “Body in White” type vehicle shell.

A 2010 Ford Mustang Body In White (BIW) shell forms the basis of the K&N Motorsports Ford Racing Mustang RTR. At the heart of this American Made pony car sits a stock Ford 5.0L TI-VCT Coyote engine. Power output is tuned to comply with the American Iron Racing horsepower-to-weight ratio rules. According to Dave Martis, R&D Manager at K&N, “The car makes 387 horsepower and 391ft-lb of torque to the rear wheels.”

It takes more than an engine and shell to build a racecar. The K&N Mustang RTR uses suspension components from venerable manufacturers such as Cortex Racing, JRi Shocks, and Eibach springs. Stopping power is provided by Baer Brake Systems six piston calipers, 14-inch floating race rotors, and Hawk Brakes racing brake pads. Of course no K&N built race car would be complete without the world-class filtration products that K&N is famous for. A one-off custom made ram air induction forces cold air through high-flow air filter, number 33-2058, and into the intake system. 33-2058 is an OE replacement style air filter originally intended for Dodge Ram pickups equipped with the 8.0-liter V10 engine traditionally used in the Dodge Viper. Making sure the Coyote motor has clean oil is K&N Wrench-Off Oil Filter, number HP-1018. The higher flow rates, thicker canister walls, and outstanding filtration offered by a K&N Wrench-Off Oil Filter are crucial for race vehicles. In addition to the customary K&N filtration products, this Mustang also uses two K&N Billet Aluminum inline fuel filters. K&N part number 81-1003 is used in the trunk to filter gasoline as it leaves the Fuel Safe fuel cell. Under the hood is billet fuel filter 81-1001 to make sure the fuel is clean before it enters the fuel injection system.

The K&N Motorsports Mustang has performed well since the build was completed earlier this year. Most recently, the car was piloted by Ryan Walton to a second and third place finish at Spring Mountain Motorsports Park in Pahrump, Nevada. Further testing and practice was held this past Friday at Willow Springs International Raceway. Walton and the K&N crew will use a NASA event, not part of the American Iron Racing Series, to further hone skills and perfect the car before heading up to the legendary Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca near Monterey, California. Just two rounds remain in the American Iron Racing Series 2014 season and the K&N Motorsports crew has high expectations.
