Lloyd Brothers Motorsports welcomes 2000 Grand National Champion, Joe Kopp, to navigate the mile races aboard the team's new Ducati Flat Track Racers in the AMA Pro K&N Filters Grand National Championship in 2010. "Kopp has the option to ride the Ducati or his trusty XR750 Harley on the half-mile tracks, effectively giving him the best of both worlds as he competes for the championship," says David Lloyd of Lloyd Brothers Motorsports, Inc.

Kopp wasted no time, taking the Ducati-powered motorcycle to its' first ever Grand National Flat Track victory at Yavapai Downs Mile in Arizona in his very first race with the new bike. The victory marks the first time that a readily available, production engine has won a Grand National Twins race in 29 years. "Limited production, flat track race-only Honda RS750 and Harley-Davidson XR750s have won every Twins National since 1981," says Lloyd.

In the season opening round, and Ducati's third ever attempt at winning a modern era Grand National, Kopp proved that a modern production engine can win a Grand National Flat Track race. The Lloyd Brothers Motorsports Ducati Flat Track Project began just a year ago, when Ducati Superbike rider Larry Pegram approached friends and flat track team co-owners David and Michael Lloyd about the potential of Ducati's air-cooled engine as an ideal flat track platform. Pegram Racing and Lloyd Brothers Motorsports joined forces to build a stock-framed dirt track bike from a Ducati Sport. "After a quick shakedown by Pegram, the bike entered the 2009 Springfield Mile, where it immediately proved a formidable opponent to the dominant Harley-Davidsons qualifying for the 18 rider main event directly from the heat race," says Lloyd. "It has been close to 50 years since a stock framed motorcycle qualified for a Grand National Twins Mile main event."

In the Twins season opener, Kopp took the lead at the start, drafting past Sammy Halbert on the final lap to take the checkered flag by .025 seconds. The Arizona Mile was also a significant event as the Ducati upset Harley Davidson on the Mile, something no other manufacturer has been able to do for 17 years. In the second Twins race of the year at the famed Springfield Mile, Pegram and Kopp qualified for the main event w/ Kopp finishing fifth, just 3/10 of a second behind second place, with Pegram finishing 9th.

Lloyd Brothers Motorsports is proud to be able to bring new brands of motorcycles to Flat Track racing. "The diversity of the machinery in the class has definitely lead to increased visibility for what many consider the most competitive form of motorcycle racing in the world," says Lloyd. "The Lloyd Brothers team depends heavily on K&N Engineering products. Professional flat track racing is often a very dirty, dusty and brutal environment for equipment. With K&N air filters and oil filters, we know that the inside of our engines stay as clean after the race as they were when we unloaded them from our transporter. Thanks K&N, for your support of our team and the AMA Pro series."

K&N Releases New Heavy Duty Commercial Grade Air Filter for Large Diesel RV Engines

K&N's 38-2006S is a highly durable, reusable and easy to clean commercial grade air filter.
Heavy Duty Replacement Air Filter for RV's
Heavy Duty Replacement Air Filter
K&N HD air filters were designed specifically to protect commercial grade engines from harmful contaminants. The filter is made from a washable hybrid air filtration media and is comprised of thick lofted non-woven synthetic material.

The 38-2006S Heavy Duty Air Filter comes in a heavy duty steel canister that can be removed to allow servicing. The filter media is highly durable. This allows it to withstand the punishment that occurs from a high compression diesel engine while providing outstanding filtration. Filter servicing is done with K&N's HD Filter Cleaner and a hose or pressure washer. Oiling is not required on this K&N HD air filter. The red color on the outside of the filter is from a dye that compliments the look of the filter. The K&N logo molded on the top of the canister gives you the assurance and protection you require from the leader in air filtration.

The assembly comes with a 90 degree canister and a 5" flange. This new filter has a base outside diameter of 9.5" and a top outside diameter of 7" with an overall total height of 17.5". The complete assembly weighs 15.3 pounds.

Laraway Motorsports Wins at Dog Hollow and Marion Center Speedways

After being patient for five seasons for his first taste of victory, Dane Laraway now has two.
After being patient for five seasons for his first taste of victory, Dane Laraway now has two.
Laraway Motorsports from Irwin, Pennsylvania experienced a stellar week at the track, posting back-to-back wins Friday night at Dog Hollow Speedway, and Saturday night at Marion Center Speedway. Team owner Brian Laraway races two Dirt Late Model cars, and to have both win in the same weekend is a just reward for the teams hard work.
Sammy Stiles is well on repeating as Coal Country Champion, posting five wins already this season.

"We have adopted the philosophy that all races are won and lost in the shop. Without proper shop preparation a team cannot be successful on the track," expressed Brian, an ex-Dirt Late Model racer himself.

On Friday night at Dog Hollow Speedway, Dane Laraway, Brian’s twenty year old son, recorded his first ever super late model victory. Dane has been pursuing the checkered flag for past five seasons, showing increasing improvement and promise each year.

Then following that momentous victory, Sammy Stile recorded his fifth feature win of the season at Marion Center Speedway on Saturday. Stile is an experienced racer, winning the 2009 Coal Country Championship Challenge Series and the 2005 Winning-est Dirt Late Model Driver in Northeastern United States.

When it comes to proper shop prep the same holds true to the products that are fitted on the car, and air filters are no exception according to Brian.

"We are aware that the engine consumes over 10,000 gallons of air for every gallon of fuel, and given the environment that we race in, improper air filtration can dramatically reduce the life of our engines," explained Brain.

"That is why we choose K&N Engineering as our source for air filters. They offer exceptional products that allow us to confidently focus on other aspects of our maintenance program, knowing that we are using the best product on the market to address our air filtering needs. We utilize a K&N air filter (E-3760), the Extreme filter top (66-1401) and the related pre-filters (22-1450PK).

"We started using the Extreme filter top in 2007. We dyno-ed our engines back-to-back with the Extreme filter top and then with a standard lid. The dyno results showed an eleven horsepower improvement. We could not believe the results, so we bolted the Extreme air filter top back on and dyno-ed again. The results were the same. Since then we have never raced without an Extreme air filter top on our cars. On the filter maintenance side we use the K & N filter cleaner, sealing grease and the filter spray."

Team Laraway Motorsports will continue their pursuit of the Coal Country Championship again this year in western Pennsylvania. The series consists of a two track challenge, and pays a bonus of $16,000 to any driver that captures the points at both Dog Hollow and Marion Center Speedways. Last year Sammy Stile was the driver that accomplished that feat. "Since the back-to-back wins the team has definitely enjoyed a boost of momentum. We are excited and looking forward to heading into the mid-season races," said Brian.

Those two wins marked the fifth and sixth for the team this season out of only eleven total races. This past Friday Dane Laraway earned his second ever victory with Stiles placing second. It was yet another spectacular race for the team as Dane won by a mere three inches over his teammate. The team is now seven for twelve.
