Is it a crossover? Is it a hatchback? Is it an economy car? Is it a utility sedan? YES! Kia Motors' slogan, "The Power to Surprise" is personified in the Kia Soul. The Soul offers drivers an economy car capable of 30 MPG, 4 trim levels including an available Sport package with 18 inch wheels, an interior capable of accommodating both drivers and passengers with ample legroom, standard USB/iPod interface on all models, and bold distinctive body lines that set it apart from its competitors, all for an MSRP under $20,000. Now, Kia Soul owners can amplify their self-expression in their Soul with the addition of a K&N air intake system!

K&N Air Intake System for 2010 and 2011 Kia Soul 2.0L

K&N has released a high-flow intake system (part number 69-5306TS) to fit the 2010 and 2011 Kia Soul with the 2.0L four cylinder engine. The K&N cold air intake replaces the Soul's original air box, air filter, and air delivery tube with a free-flowing, low restriction system which includes an open-element washable K&N cotton air filter (part number RU-4990). By changing the restrictive original components to a high-flow, low restriction design, K&N engineers were able to unleash an estimated 5.13 HP at 5300 RPM in the Kia Soul.

This added performance comes as a result of a mandrel-bent aluminum tube, which K&N engineers designed specifically for the Soul's engine compartment. The K&N tube has a powdercoated silver finish for an attention-grabbing appearance under the hood, and attached to the tube is a washable, reusable K&N air filter, which can go up to 100,000 miles before cleaning is necessary. This combination provides the Soul's engine with ample air flow and excellent dust and dirt protection. In fact, the 69-5306TS system is backed by K&N's Million Mile Limited Warranty. See https://www.knfilters.com/warranty.htm for more information. The K&N system is also very easy to install using simple hand tools, and includes step-by-step photo-illustrated instructions.

2008 K&N Horsepower Challenge Champ Allen Johnson Grabs First #1 Qualifier of 2010

With the first real hot and steamy event on tap for the 2010 NHRA Full Throttle Series, NHRA Pro Stock competitor Allen Johnson had a little extra in his back pocket heading into the Atlanta Dragway event.

The Tennessee based Johnson not only tested early in the season at the site of the NHRA Southern Nationals, in Commerce, Georgia, a facility he and his team consider their second home track, but also even more recently in the weeks just prior to the national event.

"We tested down there last month and really thought we had a good handle on it," noted Johnson. "We found some more horsepower here lately and we really felt good about going down there and grabbing the poll and even winning the race."

After posting the best numbers of anyone in both Pro Stock qualifying sessions on Friday in his 2010 Dodge Avenger, including his 6.634 ET in the second session, by time Johnson got to the fourth and final session on Saturday, he and his team were confident of their position and went into test mode.

"The weather did get worse and the last session we really didn't make a good run at all," he explained. "We didn't think anybody could get the poll from us during that fourth session, so we sort of tested a bit in session. Mike (Edwards) did make a good run at it, but the weather was quite a bit worse."

Johnson's second session pass (6.634) did hold as the number one run of the event, marking his first poll of the 2010 season and the eighth of his career.

With only four NHRA National events remaining for Pro Stock drivers to gain points during qualifying for the coveted 2010 K&N Horsepower Challenge, the 2008 crown holder sits comfortably in the number four position, thanks to his latest number one qualifier and a string of consistent race day position starts since the beginning of the current season.

"I think we would be number two, if it hadn't been for the DNQ's at the end of the 2009 season," said Johnson. "And those really cost us a bunch of positions in the Challenge."

As the biggest single payday in all of NHRA Pro Stock, "The 2010 K&N Horsepower Challenge" means quite a lot to the entire class, Johnson included.

"I hold the K&N Challenge in highest regard to everything, with the exception of the Pro Stock Championship itself," continued Johnson. "What K&N has done for the sport and our class is fantastic."

Not only will the top seven qualified Pro Stock drivers, with the eighth selected by fan vote, compete for the 2010 challenge scheduled to take place during the NHRA event in Norwalk, Ohio next month, but eight lucky fans will get to take part as well in their own way and even be teamed with a driver to root for.

When Johnson won the Challenge along with the $50,000 check in 2008, Edward Merry, Jr. of Virginia Beach, Virginia, the Sweepstakes fan that was paired with him won really big, too.

"It was really cool," said Johnson. "Ed has actually stayed in touch somewhat for the last couple of years and it was real fun watching him win when we won, too."

There are still just a few days left to enter for your chance to win in "The 2010 K&N Horsepower Challenge" Sweepstakes. Deadline for entry is Monday, May 24, 2010.

Chris Ferguson Wins First Ever Rumble on the River 30 at Virginia Motor Speedway

Ferguson will forever live in racing history as the first ever winner of the Rumble of the River 30.
Ferguson will forever live in racing history as the first ever winner of the Rumble of the River 30.
The first ever Commonwealth 100, a World of Outlaw Sanctioned event paying a hefty $25,000 to the winner, drew a field over 60 cars recently. The race was run at Bill Sawyer's Virginia Motor Speedway, in Jamaica, Virginia. The event also introduced another First Annual Race; the Rumble of the River 30 lapper, which paid a sweet $3,000 to cars that for whatever reason didn't transfer into the Commonwealth 100. Forever inked in racing history as the first ever winner of the Rumble is the Mt. Holly, North Carolina driver Chris Ferguson.
Taking the low line, Ferguson slid inside the leader on lap ten and never looked back – pulling to nearly a straight away lead for the victory.

"It feels really great to finally get a win after being so close a few times already this year. I definitely feel like we have some momentum rolling now after getting our first win," remarked Ferguson.

A mysteries gremlin engine miss during qualifying heats and the consolation races kept Ferguson out of the feature race. However, after rocketing from 18th to ninth in Saturday's consolation race, thereby securing an eighth place starting position in the Rumble, there was yet another brass-ring for Ferguson to grab.

Making the most of the low line in turns three and four in the 30 lap dash, Ferguson pulled a "slide-job" on leader Dan Stone on lap ten. Ferguson held on for the remainder of race, pulling to nearly a straight away lead for the victory.

"We finally did figure out what the miss was, but it took us going through the carburetor, fuel filter, fuel regulator, ignition boxes, and toggle switches. It actually ended up being a bad Battery," said Ferguson. "Can you believe a bad battery can ruin a whole weekend? My Starrette Trucking Race Team and I definitely would like to thank all our sponsors for their support."

"My team's relationship with K&N is going awesome right now. I couldn't ask for products that are better than what K&N have to offer. We rely on K&N's air and oil filters, covers and cleaners, for our race program. Seems like every time I use the air filter cleaner, the K&N air filter looks brand new again after I wash it."

"We are improving each week running with top series such as Lucas Oil Dirt Series and World of Outlaws," continues Ferguson.

"I feel like we should be able to win one of those national series races by the end of season. I'm also looking forward to competing in the $100,000 to win Dream at Eldora Speedway, in New Weston, Ohio, in June. I think now that we have a win under our belt, the rest will start to come easier."
