K&N presented a San Gabriel High School senior with a scholarship during the Alhambra Unified School District's 42nd Annual Automotive Technicians' Awards Banquet.
K&N Scholarship presented to San Gabriel High School student Steven Loc by K&N's Steve Gibson and Instructor Eli Jaramillo
School administrators, school board members, automotive instructors, and parents gathered to honor the achievements of the automotive technology students from Alhambra High School, Mark Keppel High School, and San Gabriel High School. The banquet has become a tradition in the Alhambra Unified School District. Local car dealerships, repair, and collision shops, automotive colleges, and members of the automotive aftermarket show support for the students by donating door prizes, tools, equipment, and even scholarship money so that they may continue pursuing a career in the automotive industry.
K&N's Steve Gibson attended the awards banquet to present a $500 scholarship to San Gabriel High student Steven Loc on behalf of K&N Engineering. "It was difficult to decide who to award the scholarship to," said Gibson. "We wanted to choose a student who showed that their love for working on cars was more than a skill, it was a passion. In working with the district and the instructors from the three high schools, we were able to narrow it down to Mr. Loc. We made the right choice."
The students were also able to hear a speech by guest speaker Mike Spagnola, CEO of Street Scene Industries, and Dave McClelland, the voice of NHRA. Spagnola is an alumni of San Gabriel High School, and himself received an award at this same banquet when he was a high school senior. McClelland has been the banquet's Master of Ceremonies for nearly 40 years. Both men encouraged the students to keep learning and keep growing. "There are so many doors that will open for you," said Spagnola. "You are truly in the right place at the right time."
All scholarships presented at the banquet allow the recipient to use to attend the college, university, or trade school of their choice. "It's great to be able to support school programs like the ones in the Alhambra Unified School District," said Gibson. "These students are tomorrow's automotive technicians and service advisors, and for K&N to be an active sponsor of their education, it makes you feel very proud."

The Wicked Racing Team is ready for the 2009 United States Sprint Boat Association Racing Series. The Number 10 Wicked Racing Team earned the National Finalist Championship win in 2009.
The Championship Wicked Racing Team run some of the fastest boats in the Jet Sprint Boat Racing Series
Wicked Racing starts the 2009 United States Sprint Boat Association Racing Series at the Webb's Slough Track in Washington on June 20th
The official season starts on June 20th in St. John, Washington at the Webb’s Slough Track, but Dan Morrison and Doug Hendrickson could not wait to hit the water. The duo went to a non-sanctioned USSBA event at Firebird Raceway in Chandler, Arizona.

Wicked Racing uses K&N air and oil fitlers to protect its engines and provide additional horsepower while racing
“We were the fastest on the track,” said Dan Morrison. “Our boats are running flawless again this year.” Jet Sprint Boat racing is unique. Drivers and their navigators compete in water channels that are only three feet deep and 15 feet wide. They also have to right corner at least 32 times in less than a minute and pull 7 G-Forces.
The event is also about memorizing a course. Organizers give the racers a look at the track on paper a day before the event. They get to walk around the course, but the first time the boats go out, it’s a race. There are no test runs, arrows or flags, just a maze of islands that have to be raced from memory.
“The Arizona race was great fun,” said Morrison. “We raced once on Friday, three times on Saturday and twice on Sunday. It was also great to be in front of a big crowd.”
Morrison has a NASCAR motor in a super light weight crank. His motor is strong enough to run at 8500 rpm’s all day, but they keep it down to 7000 rpm’s to maximize the efficiency of their jet pumps. “We use K&N air and oil filters,” he said. “K&N is the reason we’re in the Winner’s Circle. K&N protects our engines and gives us additional horsepower when we race.”
The Wicked Team won at Chandler, Arizona and the team plans to be top contenders in each class in 2009.
