Robert Henson is a serious bass fisherman. When he’s not at his day job, he’s in a fishing competition. Currently he is in three different fishing circuits.
Sonar and GPS help fishermen find the bass during the Kentucky Lake Tour
The St. Louis, Missouri resident will drive his 2008 Chevrolet Silverado with K&N products to a minimum of 17 tournaments in 2009. There are prizes depending on the weight of the fish and the monetary prizes grow with the divisions.
Bass fisherman Robert Henson about to weigh in after a fishing competition
Henson was recently on the Kentucky Lake Tour and finished 41st out of 138 competitors. “The fishermen who live in Kentucky have the advantage on this lake,” said Henson. “I have two sonar systems and two GPS systems on my Bass Cat, but the local guys know where the fish stage.”
Henson will also travel to Alabama later this season for a fishing tournament. “It’s nearly a 12 hour drive from Missouri,” he said. “My K&N air intake system gives me additional power when I tow my boat. My K&N oil filter (HP-1017) has thick canister walls for extra strength and durability which reduces the risk of damage from loose rocks and debris.”
Henson is not only serious, he loves fishing more than anything else, and K&N helps him get where he needs to be to catch his bass.

“We experienced a heartbreaking rollover only yards from the exit gate,” said Brad Lovell. “We were frustrated but undeterred, and our efforts during regular competition put us in the finals.”
The Lovell brothers faced the longest course they had ever seen. “Roger and I did a good job of getting through the courses fast all weekend,” said Brad Lovell. “We were in the zone and felt no pressure or stress. I was merciless on the truck and whipped it around the whole park.” Brad Lovell was comfortable with his speeds and Roger Lovell gave him expert coaching in the rocks. Together they had a near perfect run and when it was all over, they lead by four points for the win.
“Roger and I are really proud of the versatility of this truck,” said Lovell. “Coming off a 5th place finish in King of the Hammers to a win in We-Rock feels really good. There is a lot of silt and fine dust on these courses but our K&N air filters keeps the debris out of our engines and prevents our sensors from clogging up. We need K&N air filters on these difficult courses.”
The next stop for Torchmate Racing is the XRRA season opener in Moab, Utah. Brad and Roger Lovell are in pursuit of a race win and the 2009 XRRA championship.
