IHRA Mardi Gras Nationals Quick Rod Win for Driver Luke Bogacki

IHRA Sportsman Driver of the Year Luke Bogacki kicked off his 2009 campaign in style by winning the Quick Rod category at the IHRA Nitro Jam opener.

Bogacki was at the wheel of his winning American Dragster at the IHRA Mardi Gras Nationals at State Capital Dragway in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He drove the same car to a Northern Nationals Quick Rod victory and a 4th place national finish in 2008.

The Louisiana win marked Bogacki’s 6th IHRA national event victory. “It was a really good weekend,” said Bogacki. “My car was flawless, and I felt like my driving was pretty solid for the most part. Throw in a lucky break or two along the way, and we were fortunate enough to hoist the iron man in the end.”

Bogacki used a string of great reaction times and close ET’s throughout eliminations. Disregarding his semi-final competition bye run, his reaction times varied only from .015 to .003, with a strong .006 in the final round that became unnecessary when opponent Robert Cool fouled with a -.005 red light.

In addition to picking up the national event victory and the prize and contingency money that comes with it, Bogacki also earned a berth in IHRA’s Tournament of Champions. The new program is a one-race runoff for the 2009 world championship. Racers earn seeds in the runoff by winning national events, sportsman national events, or placing in the top three in their division standings throughout the season. At this early point in the year, Bogacki joined Immokalee Sportsman Nationals winner Brendan George as the first two seeds in the Quick Rod tournament.

Bogacki uses K&N air filters. “K&N helps my engine perform the way it should,” he said. “I can count on K&N for more power and great filtration in every competition.”

“I still don’t have a stance on the tournament of champions,” said Bogacki. “I could make an argument either way, so I’m going to wait to pass judgment for a year and see how it goes. It is what it is, and this is the way the championship will be decided in 2009, and probably beyond. I’m very excited to know that I’ll be a part of the championship tournament this season.”

One Wally Down, Another Wally to Go in One of the Fastest Cars in the NHRA

There is a first for every aspect of a young racers career. For 18-year-old Andrew Madrid, it came at the NHRA Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series at Southwestern International Raceway in Tucson, Arizona. He won his first Wally.

“I’ve wanted it for a long time,” he said. “It’s a cool feeling. I put it in my trophy case, but my mom wants to put it in the living room. Maybe we will.”

The Chatsworth, California resident has been racing for six years and moved up from the junior dragster circuit with a divisional win at the Lucas Oil Division 7 Points meet.

“I’m fortunate,” said Madrid. “In the first round my opponent red lighted against me. This allowed me to run the car out to see where I was on the tune up. We put the wrong numbers in the timer that controls the throttle stop. If my opponent did not red light, I would have lost. I would have been set up wrong and hit the finish line with a car that was way too fast. After that, each run was a crap shoot but we got closer to the dial each run.” In the final the K&N and Lucas Oil sponsored racer beat Gabriel Torres in Super Comp.

Madrid also has a new dragster with a 605 cubic inch Chevy motor. It’s 245 inches long and hits speeds of 177 mph on average. “It’s one of the faster cars out there,” he said. “I’ve used K&N my entire career. My dad raced and used K&N. We also use K&N on our tow vehicles and our daily drivers. You can’t loose with K&N filters on your vehicles, on or off the track. We get more air and filtration with K&N.”

Another first may be coming up for Madrid. He is looking forward to the SummitRacing.com NHRA Nationals in Las Vegas. “I'm going to try for my first Wally in a National event win,” he said.

Fastest Lap at The Daytona 200 for Factory Aprilia Millennium Technologies Team

The Factory Aprilia Millennium Technologies Team finished in the top ten at the historic Daytona 200. This was the first event for the Aprilia squad.

The KWS motorsports team went to Daytona with a new program. There was a new bike, in a new class, a new set of rules and one new rider, Chaz Davies. Most of the crew was also new, but it worked out.

Rider Chaz Davies turned the fastest lap of the entire event on a motorcycle that had less than 50 practice laps and finished sixth on the track. “The weekend was fairly difficult trying to get the bike sorted in the limited time we had,” said Davies. “Our crew did a fantastic job. The bike handled awesome and I’m looking forward to the rest of the season.”

Rider Ben Thompson had some bad luck, but made up 27 positions in the race and finished 22nd. In qualifying Thompson was only able to turn a handful of laps due to some minor problems. The rider from Alaska had to start the race from the 49th position. Davis qualified in the 14th position. “This was a mixed blessing at the time,” said Team Manager Chip Spalding. “Since the team did not make the Superpole competition to decide the top ten qualifiers, it meant the team had more time to get caught up.”

Once the race started, both Thompson and Davis started working their way to the front. The race was going according to plan until the pace car came out for a lighting failure in the chicane. “Chaz and Ben had just pitted and the team elected to stay out,” said Spalding. “Unfortunately the race went from full course caution to a red flag situation when two riders fell down in the chicane.”

The last segment of the race was a ten-lap sprint to the finish. Davies was able to get a great start and moved immediately into the top ten. Thompson also moved up to the start but was hit by another rider and ran off in the horseshoe. Thompson was able to restart the race but lost some positions during a critical time.

“Twenty second place is not the finishing position we were looking for,” said Thompson. “We did make a lot of progress with the Aprilia RSV1000R and I’m very excited about our next race in Fontana, California.”

The Factory Aprilia Millennium Technologies Team uses K&N air filters and oil filters. “We use K&N to compete in the most competitive series in the country,” said Spalding. “K&N gives us the power, acceleration and protection we need at ever race.”

Briley climbed his way to the podium by working hard. He overcame issues that took him out of first position and threw him back into the pack. Driver Connor Hart was in the lead when Briley took him on in a head-to-head battle in his Trophy Kart. At the finish, Briley took the win.

The Middle School student's Trophy Kart has a LTR 450 Suzuki quad racer motor. “We use K&N air and oil filters,” said Trenton’s father Rob Briley. “We have dyno records that show we pick up 5 horsepower on a 40 horsepower motor. K&N helps us out on and off the track. We’ve used K&N for as long as I can remember on our street cars and trucks. K&N is a well known product in our family.”

Briley placed 2nd overall in the J1 Modified Elite Trophy Kart Class in the 2008 SXS National Series and placed 9th overall the 2008 CORR Series Modified Elite Class. He was in the video From the Dirt and will have a spot in From the Dirt Part Two.

The Acton, California resident  races almost three weekends every month. “We have to stay focused,” said Natasha Briley, Trenton’s mother. “We’re busy. Trenton is also competing in a complete Lucas Oil Off-Road Racing Series in a 450 modified.”

Briley's next race will be at Perris, California in Round Two of the SXS Stadium Series where he will defend his status as points leader.

K&N dynamometer test showed an estimated 12.92 horsepower gain at 4612 RPM on a 2008 Electra Glide Classic. Results will vary with other models.

This K&N custom intake assembly replaces the restrictive stock OE air cleaner with a mandrill bent aluminum tube and a K&N high-flow washable and reusable chrome top air filter (RC-3680). The complete K&N air intake system gives Harley Davidson Touring Models guaranteed horsepower.

The 63-1122 and 63-1122P include the complete breather assembly, mounting hardware and a billet aluminum throttle body mounting plate that adds to the appearance of the custom assembly.

Simply install the K&N intake tube onto the throttle body along with the provided gasket and secure it with the provided mounting bolts.

The 63-1122 and 63-1122P can be easily installed in 90 minutes or less and is backed by the K&N Million Mile Limited Warranty. Take a look at our 63-1122 installation video to see all the steps involved.
