5.7 Liter Hemi Engine with K&N Air and Oil Filters Powers Through Ultimate Adventure

Dirt and gravel can turn off road travel into a really rough ride in just a split second. The crews that took the Ultimate Adventure Four Wheeling Road Trip from the Black Hills of South Dakota to Rangely, Colorado saw and felt the geography change every day.

For seven full days off-road rigs drove and four wheeled to the next adventure in the next state. “One day we’d four-wheel across a back road,” said Ryan Hagel, co-driver of the K&N sponsored vehicle. “The next day we’d drive on a main road on the way to our next destination.”

The caravan of vehicles was similar to the Hot Rod Power Tour and attracted a lot of attention at each stop. “Imagine dozens of decked out rigs and you get the picture. There was a lot of comradery on the invitation only annual event,” said Hagel. “Everyone worked together as a team. We kept break-downs to a minimum. We helped each other and no one got hurt. It was a success.”

Keith Bailey represented K&N and drove through the terrain with his 5.7 liter Hemi-powered engine with a Bruiser chassis. The vehicle was equipped with K&N air and oil filters. “K&N took us through the dirt and kept our engine safe,” said Hagel. “We got the extra filtration and power we needed under extreme off-road conditions.”

Other modifications included:

Engine: 5.7 liter Hemi
Transmission: 545RFE
Transfer case: Dana 300, Low Max 4:1, and STaK replacement case
Front axle: Solid high-pinion Dana 60, spool, 5:13 gears
Rear axle: Solid high-pinion Dana 60, spool, 5:13 gears
Steering PSC full hydraulic
Suspension: 14 inch Fox coilovers with air bumps
Tires and Wheels: 39-inch BFG Krawlers on 17-inch Poison Spyder bead locks
Other: Warn 9.5i winch

From the plains, to steep hills and rocks the caravan was treated to spectacular sights and intense trail action. “I hope to do it again,” said Hagel. “It was an awesome experience.”

Fassler and Garcia have extensive experience in world class GT completion. Corvette Racing has run and will continue to run a special K&N Engineering air filter. “Dirt is a huge problem in our races,” said Crew Chief Dan Binks. “K&N protects our engines from the debris and is especially helpful at our endurance races.”

On Saturday night, the Clovis, California native qualified in 17th place, less than three-hundredths of a second off of the pace set by Sammy Swindell. Meyers finished sixth in his heat and started on the pole position in the B Main. He went on to the win.

Meyers uses K&N products. “K&N Filters are absolutely the best, and that is why you will find them in every application within our team,” he said. “We work very hard to make horsepower and our K&N filter allows us to protect or motors in the worst conditions.”

Meyers made a few changes to the car and returned to the track to start the A-Main in the eighteenth position. He raced to the tenth position. “It was a challenging night for us,” said Meyers. “But, that is why we are here. I am really proud of this Elite Racing team for keeping its head up and solving our handling issues. Sometimes it takes several nights to overcome these issues, but they made the right changes and got us going in the right direction.”

On the final night of the DIRTcar Nationals Meyers posted a top ten finish. His qualifying put him just outside the inversion. This placed him starting on the pole in heat four. Meyers crossed the line in fifth place and earned the final transfer spot into the A-Main. Once there, he quickly drove his way toward the front of the field. There was only one caution during the 30-lap event and Meyers passed nine cars to cross the line in eighth place. “Eighth place isn’t quite as good as we wanted to be,” he said. “We wanted to win, but to come from seventeenth to eighth at Volusia is a good night for us.”

The next race for Jason Meyers and the Elite Racing team will be at The Dirt Track at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Nevada on February 26.

Valentine’s Day in the Camping World 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series turned sour for the America’s Incredible Pizza Company Race Team.

A promising run at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida was cut short just past the midway point of the 120-lap high speed shootout. Scott Lagasse Jr. became a victim of circumstance. An accident in front of Lagasse left him with nowhere to go and sent the No. 11 Toyota Camry back to the garage with 49 laps to go.

The NASCAR Nationwide Series season-opener was promising for the team and they were quick right from the start. In Lagasse’s Nationwide Series debut, he was able to get right in the mix out on the track and post the fastest lap time out of 50 cars during the first practice session.

The No. 11 America’s Incredible Pizza Company Toyota with K&N products posted a lap time of 49.003 at 183.662 mph. That quick time was followed up with the fourth quickest time in the final practice the following day. The No. 11 ran a 49.026 at 183.576 mph.

The Camping World 300 got underway under sunny skies Saturday afternoon. The green flag waved and the first race of the 2009 season commenced without a hitch. Lagasse remained patient and calm as he started out in 19th position and picked other cars around the race track to draft with.

The first pit stop occurred under caution on lap 28 and the crew quickly changed four tires, refueled and made a track bar adjustment.

By lap 39, Lagasse was running in 10th position. A tight handling condition pushed the Rookie of the Year candidate back a few spots to 21st place before the next pit stop was called.

The team’s optimism was cut short when the No. 11 became a victim of circumstance. Two drivers had an on-track altercation in front of Lagasse, which caused him to collide with the No. 66 driven by Steve Wallace. The damage was significant and Lagasse ended the day and settled for a 43rd place finish at Daytona.

“I just saw a couple of guys getting together in front of me and tried to slow it down and just couldn’t,” said Lagasse. “I hate it for our guys. They built a great race car. After the way our practice and qualifying went I know this is not what we were expecting down here. We’ll go to California and see what happens.”

The No. 11 is equipped with K&N products. “K&N provides us with excellent power and filtration,” said Media Relations Manager Shayna Keller. “It also protects our engine on the race track.”

The NASCAR Nationwide Series heads out west next weekend to Fontana, California. The Stater Brothers 300 at the Auto Club Speedway will air live on ESPN2 at 7:00 pm EST.
