Legends Car Series Rookie of the Year Points Leader uses K&N Air Filters

The last race of the 2007 Legends car season is in the books and teen Cody Swanson has the rookie of the year points lead.

Swanson drove the No.99 Legend car with K&N products for Speed Wong Racing at Irwindale Speedway. Swanson qualified 18th and had to make a few minor adjustments to give him more grip coming off the corners for the main.

“It took us five tries to get through the first lap because so many people were crashing in the main event,” said Swanson. “By lap five I moved up to 11th place. I was happy with the car and it was handling better than it had all day.”

Swanson was hit from behind on turn four and nearly spun out. “The car that hit me brought out the caution and put me in 12th position on the restart,” said Swanson. “I was determined to try and finish the race inside the top ten. When we got the green my brakes locked up. I started pumping but nothing was happening. At that point my goal was to keep the car off the wall, but I hit the wall at turn one. The damage was significant enough to retire me from the race. I kept the rookie of the year point’s lead but slid back to 9th in the overall points standings.”

Swanson moved from karts to the Legends series this year. “It was an awesome season and a great challenge,” he said. “I want to thank K&N Engineering for supporting me this year. The K&N RC-3510 air filters performed flawlessly the entire season and were very easy to service using the K&N filter cleaning kit. I look forward to a great season off and the challenges that are ahead.”

Polydome Princton Nationals Moves Donny Schatz Forward on Outlaws Career Win Leaders List

Donny Schatz celebrated his 69th career World of Outlaws A-Feature win in the Snap-On Tools No. 15 J&J with K&N Engineering Products at the Polydome Princeton National. The Princeton, Minnesota win moves Schatz up the ladder in the Outlaws carreer win leaders list, he is now within one of Dave Blaney who has 70 wins and is in 6th place overall.

Schatz opened the program by qualifying 10th in the field of 38 cars. A second heat race victory put him in the Crane Cams Dash where he started sixth. In the eight-lap Dash, Schatz moved up to third, which is where he started in the 40-lap A-Feature.

The Fargo, North Dakota racer moved his way around the high-banked quarter-mile dirt oval until a caution flag stopped the action on lap 21. There were several more restart attempts before Schatz had the opportunity to take the lead away from Chad Blonde. Schatz managed to withstand a few more restarts to score the win.

“The race was a pretty tough struggle,” said Schatz. “Chad Blonde was setting a good pace, but I knew we just had to keep working on him. We lost our brakes early in the race and I really had to finesse the car. We had a great car and we just hope to continue to win races from here on out.”

The victory was his 18th World of Outlaws win of the season. Schatz and the Global ParkerStore sponsored team with K&N Engineering products continue to lead the 2007 World of Outlaws standings. They return to action next Saturday at Tulare, California.

We Rock USA Grand National Finale Challenging for Team Waggoner

Team Waggoner Racing attended the We Rock USA Grand National Event in Texas with high spirits. It was the last big event of the season for the rock crawlers.

The east coast and west coast teams meet in the middle to battle it out on man-made courses. On Saturday, Cody and Jim Waggoner crawled easily through the first course and set the mood for the rest of the day. “They were on fire and completed it with minimal errors,” said Lindsay Waggoner of Waggoner Racing. “Our engine ran perfect with K&N products for the entire day. At the end we were in third place despite all the heat and humidity.”

The Waggoner’s were only 14 points away from catching the first place leader. “We were ready for Sunday,” said Waggoner. “It was an exciting day for us. We were interviewed by Xtreme 4X4 for a television show. It was really different for our team to have the camera follow them all morning and at each course. The pressure was setting in.”

On Sunday the courses were set up so close that if you hit one you hit two. “In the end Sunday did not go as smooth as Saturday,” said Waggoner. “There was not one thing to blame, just an overall cluster of silly mistakes. Unfortunately the guys went from third to ninth place on the final day. The good news is it will be fun to be on really good reality TV in January 2008. It’s very exciting to have the coverage for our sponsors like K&N Filters.”
