K&N Filters Chevy Moves from NHRA Gatornationals to NHRA Spring Nationals

A special edition K&N Filters Chevy driven by Jeff Arend made history on March 18th in Gainesville Raceway at the AC Delco Gatornationals.

Arend will always be remembered as the driver Ashley Force defeated for her first NHRA Nitro Funny Car round victory. The legend’s daughter had a clean 4.789 run and left a tire-smoking Arend in her clutch dust. After two days of solid qualifying, it was not the type of day Arend was hoping for.

He drove the K&N Filters Chevy to three solid laps in four qualifying attempts. On Friday, a 4.956 lap left Arend sitting in the 16th position overnight. On Saturday, Arend made the quickest lap of the session on his first attempt, with a 4.800 pushing him up to the No.4 spot. In the final run he moved up to the No.1 spot with a 4.774.

“We put three full laps on the board, and got better with each one of them,” said Arend. “We reset my career best speed for one thing, but the most important part of it was just how consistently well the car was running. We expected to do very well on Sunday, and I won’t deny the fact I really thought we had a good chance of winning the race.”

Arend pulled away from the tree by nearly 6-hundredths of a second. That lead evaporated before the 60-foot time, as Arend’s K&N/CSK car smoked the tires almost instantly.

“I will admit that I didn’t think it was a good thing to have Ashley Force in the first round,” said Arend. “She’s doing a great job driving that car, and it’s a very fast Funny Car. They’re doing great and they have all the resources of John Force Racing behind them. It truly was just a matter of time until she started reeling off wins, and I just wanted to make sure she got the first one off of someone else. It didn’t work out for us, but we’re leaving Florida with a good car and some more good runs under our belt.”

Arend will race the K&N car at the O’Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals at Houston Raceway Park March 30 through April 1. “The Houston race will be a big one for our entire team,” said Worsham Team Manger Bob Wilber. “We’re spending every hour we have available getting ready for it. The special-edition K&N car performed extremely well in Gainesville. We qualified 4th in a very strong field, and it was even in the No.1 spot for a bit before being bumped down to 4th by three of the strongest cars in the sport. That was our best qualifying effort of the year, and I think it shows that we’re on the right track and we’re getting better. Now, we need to take it to the next level and put both the K&N and the Checker, Schuck’s Kragen cars high up into the field in Houston. We hope to win some rounds there and hopefully the race. We know, with our K&N Oil Filters on the cars, that we can have confidence in our lubrication system, and that’s critical to success in this high-performance sport.”

2007 to 2009 Toyota FJ Cruiser Gets Power Boost with K&N Peformance Air Intake System

K&N Engineering has developed a 77 Series High-Flow Air Intake System (77-9030KP) with a bright finish for the 2007, 2008 and 2009 Toyota FJ Cruiser V6 4.0 liter engine. K&N dynamometer tests show a horsepower gain of 8.17 @ 4785 rpm.

"The factory air box is mounted to the intake manifold," said K&N Performance Kit Manager Bert Heck. "We gained horsepower by removing the factory intake system and replacing it with our smoother, less restrictive air intake. We also put in an oversized cone shaped K&N Air Filter (RF-1048) which allows for more dirt retention before cleaning is required. This is great for weekend warriors who love to go on the dirty and dusty back roads. The heat shield on 77-9030KP is secured using existing mounting points near the power steering reservoir and on the inner fender. "

The K&N Air Intake System is free-flowing which results in more power. "The mass air sensor is installed in the K&N Intake tube with the provided hardware," said Heck. "The placement of the mass air sensor was an important part of gaining horsepower on this kit."

The factory engine cover fits in its original location once the K&N Intake System is in place. It takes less than 90 minutes to install most K&N air intakes with common tools. K&N air intakes come with the famous K&N Million Mile Limited Warranty.

On Friday, Allard qualified sixth with the K&N Filters, Red Line Oil No.0 and ended up with the outside row number two starting spot for the 30-lap feature. “We use K&N Engineering Oil and Air Filters along with K&N’s Carbon Fiber Air Box,” said Allard. “K&N makes the best products, the oil and air filters are easy to use and maintain. We just wash, assemble and race and we never have to worry about performance.”

Allard made his move early in the feature and took the lead in one turn. There were numerous cautions and the pace began to slow. At lap 20 Brad Sweet took back the lead, but another caution stopped the race again. Roger Crockett was able to get by Allard for second place. When the white flag came up Allard was out of fuel but managed to make it across the line. He fell from third to seventh on the final lap.

On Saturday, Allard was 28th in the qualifying order but moved his way through lapped traffic to pick up the win and gain five points toward the championship. Allard leads the Golden State Challenge Series point standings by three digits over Sean Becker.

Williams Motorsports heads to Placerville Speedway for Round 5 in the GSC next Saturday.

Defending World of Outlaws Champ is 2007 Points Leader

Defending World of Outlaws champion Donny Schatz continued to set a whirlwind pace in the sprint car world with a one-two finish in the south. Schatz raced his ParkerStore sponsored No. 15 J&J with Shaver power to victory on Friday night near Houston, Texas and came home second Saturday in Mississippi.

“I would have been happier had we won both nights to tell you the truth,” said Schatz. “Things went really well in Houston and we came up a bit short in Mississippi. We’ve built our program to expect a certain level of results and we’ve got to continue pushing ourselves every night. This team still has a relatively new group of guys working together and we’re still working towards getting better.”

The Fargo, North Dakota racer finished inside the top three in eight of the first nine races for a strong early season. He maintains the lead in the WoO series standings. Schatz and the ParkerStore Team use K&N Engineering Products. The K&N Airbox works flawlessly,” he said. “We are able to attain maximum horsepower. I have to thank all the folks at K&N for their dedication to building a superior product.”

On Friday night Schatz dominated the program at Houston Raceway Park near Bayton, Texas. He won the heat, the dash event and led all 35 laps of the feature.

Following the event the ParkerStore team traveled to Magnolia, Mississippi and Pike County Speedway where they were one of 31 cars on the field. During the 35-lap feature Schatz started inside the second row. He pulled next to early leader Joey Saldana several times as the two raced side-by-side for the lead. Rubber began to come in around the bottom groove of the 3/8-mile dirt oval and there was no safe way to pass. Schatz raced to his first second place finish of the season behind Saldana.

“We figured the rubber would come in, but hoped we had enough time to get the lead,” said Schatz. “We battled Joey pretty good there for a few laps, but didn’t get to race in lapped traffic when there was still a top and bottom groove. That happens in racing I guess, but we’re focused on winning so the second place finish does not sit real well with this team. It’s motivation for next week in Tennessee where hopefully we can be in the hunt for another win.”

The ParkerStore Team returns to action next weekend when the World of Outlaws makes it debut at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, Tennessee.
